Infant mental health

Our infant mental health program offers therapeutic treatment and support to families and children. It promotes healthy relationships between parents and very young children. A caring, nurturing relationship with a special adult allows babies to grow healthfully and become successful adults. When families feel unhealthy, clinical services can restore wholeness. A specially trained counselor from Northern Valley Catholic Social Service will visit the family's home for infant mental health services, or the family can come in to the office. The counselor will learn from the parents and the baby what they want and need. Then, they will work together on a plan for healing. This is how our program helps parents and babies.

Sometimes taking care of a baby is more difficult than parents could ever imagine:

  •  Babies can be difficult or very fussy. Something just doesn't seem right and nothing helps.
  •  Expectant parents could be worried because they don't have special feelings toward their unborn child.
  •  A new mother may have postpartum depression.
  •  One or both parents could be overwhelmed with stress or personal problems.
  •  Parents, friends, and family members wonder what could be wrong.
  •  The relationship between the parent and the baby just isn't "clicking."
